Carlos Corberan: I'm not obsessed with West Brom stat

Carlos Corberan insists he is “not obsessed” with clean sheets as he goes about plotting Albion’s defensive perfection.

Spaniard Corberan’s side lead the way in the Championship for clean sheets following an impressive flurry of seven in nine games after initially managing no shut-outs in their opening five fixtures.

The head coach believes a certain type of attacking can aid defensive performance. Corberan stressed attacking increases the possibility of clean sheets and attacking in “good positions” will help a defence.

Corberan said: “The only thing you can be focused on is to keep defending well. To attack better without defending (more). To attack well and keep defending. To analyse the details we need to defend better.

“Millwall has a penalty and Alex (Palmer) saves and we achieve a clean sheet. Can you ask Alex to save every penalty? No. But we can do our best to help him.”

Bristol City, Millwall, Preston, Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth, QPR and Coventry have all failed to register against Albion since the middle of September. Only Valerien Ismael’s Watford and Blues, helped by a controversial opener from the penalty spot, have found a way through.
