AFC Telford United are preparing to unveil a special Christmas present for their fans - by securing popular club captain Shane Killock on an extended contract.

The 21-year-old comes to the end of a two-year deal at the end of this season.

But, after a series of impressive performances during that time, the club have moved quickly to ensure they don't lose one of their star assets.

"We've opened discussions with Shane about the possibility of extending his contract and those discussions have gone well," said chairman Lee Carter.

"He wants to stay here and we want him to stay here so I don't envisage any problems and I expect negotiations to be concluded over Christmas.

"We'll be looking to extend his contract for another 12 months with the option of another year on top of that."

Carter said the move to prolong Killock's stay at the club was in line with their policy of securing the futures of their more valuable players.

Striker Adam Proudlock has already been signed up to the end of the season with the option of another year to follow.

And Carter said manager Andy Sinton is eager to ensure young players like Andy Brown and Sean Newton are retained.

Carter added: "Now is the time for this football club to put it's best assets at the top of the pay scale and on the longest contracts.

"Shane fits into that approach and we want to make sure our best players are here long-term."

Deep lying snow and freezing temperatures mean the game is in doubt.
