Promotion on Sunday would represent a new high in the colourful career of AFC Telford United's assistant manager Darren Read.

Andy Sinton's No 2 is playing it cool as he looks forward to the Blue Square Bet North play-off final with Guiseley, insisting it is "just another game".

But the well-travelled deputy, who played in America and Denmark and coached the Montserrat national team, admits he would relish playing a part in helping Telford's return to the non-League top table.

"I have never won promotion as a coach," said Read, who has also worked with the Academies at Wolves — where he first met Sinton — and Derby, as well as serving as first team coach and No 2 at Stafford.

"I arrived at Stafford just after they went up to the Conference and helped keep them there for two years. As a player I won a promotion during six years at Fort Lauderdale Strikers in Florida but that's my only one."
