Liam Chilvers to stay at AFC Telford for another month

AFC Telford United have secured the services of defender Liam Chilvers for October as they prepare to welcome Woking to the New Bucks Head tomorrow.

The 31-year-old signed on a short-term deal in mid-September to help the Bucks through their injury crisis and has now agreed to extend his stay for a further month.

And that represents a major boost for boss Andy Sinton, whose recent selection woes are due to ease slightly tomorrow.

"We have managed to secure Liam," he said.

"He's a great lad and the more games he has played, the better he has been.

"The deal is good for the club and good for Liam."

The news comes as Sinton hopes to welcome back striker Steve Jones and full-back Ryan Valentine from illness and injury respectively.

Chris Sharp has returned to training after a hernia operation, but may not be considered ready to start, while fellow striker Jake Reid is back in contention.

Chris Blackburn and Michael Briscoe remain sidelined with back problems while Dan Preston and Kieron St Aimie are suspended.

Sinton has been delighted with the way his squad have coped during the last month, when injuries and suspensions have hit to such an extent that they were only able to name four subs at Gateshead last week.

But the Bucks boss knows another stern challenge awaits against a Woking side revelling in their first season back in the top flight.

"It's a dangerous game," he said. " They have picked up results against some strong sides and have got goals and pace in their team."
