AFC Telford to work from the back for drop fight
AFC Telford's leaky defence will be put through their paces this week after manager Mark Cooper saw his team concede three goals for the second match running.
The Bucks rearguard came in for criticism again on Saturday following their thrilling 3-3 draw against Tamworth.
Cooper hailed his side's determination after they battled back three times at the New Bucks Head from a goal behind to halt a four-game losing run.
But he was left frustrated by his side's inability to defend against long balls into their penalty area, which led to all three goals.
The result leaves Telford one point adrift in the Blue Square Premier drop zone, having failed to win any of their last 20 league games.
Defensive drills will be the order of the day in training this week, but Cooper added that the players must also alter their 'mentality' when it comes to winning their individual defensive battles.
Cooper said afterwards: "We are far, far too easy to score against. We worked last week on trying to stop that but it comes down to desire again.
"It's not a coaching problem. it's a personal mentality issue where you have got to say 'I am not going to lose my personal battle today and I am not going to let my man score.'
"And, until that stops, I would probably say we will keep conceding goals.
"But we will work on it again and we are going to put 1,000 balls into the box on Tuesday night and Thursday night and they have got to head them."
Cooper acknowledged that the team could benefit from bringing in an experienced defender, but added: "Is any body going to let a good player like that go?"
