Will Salmon could help condemn his former club
AFC Telford United defender Will Salmon remembers his time at tomorrow's opponents Ebbsfleet with great fondness.
But there will be no sentimentality from the right-back on his return to Stonebridge Road.
The 26-year-old will help condemn his former club to the drop from the Blue Square Premier if the already-relegated Bucks can deny their hosts a win.
Salmon, now in his third season at the New Bucks Head, spent the 2009-10 campaign at Ebbsfleet, making 27 starts as they were relegated from the non-league's top flight.
He believes his time in Kent helped make him a better player, and has great respect for manager Liam Daish, his former boss.
But he will have no qualms about sending the Fleet down, especially if it means halting Telford's awful 30-match unbeaten run.
He said: "I have got very fond memories there at Ebbsfleet. They have a great manager in Liam Daish, who really is firm but fair, and he gets the best out of his players.
"It is going to be a difficult one to go there and get points, but we have got to keep looking to progress until the season is finally done.
"Obviously I am not an Ebbsfleet player any more. I am an AFC Telford player and I want to win games here.
"And if we can go there and end this run of results – which has been a massive monkey on our backs – we will."
Ebbsfleet look all-but-doomed, 12 points from safety with the division's second-worst goal difference and just four games left to play.
Anything but a win would condemn them to the same fate the Bucks suffered 13 days ago at home to Nuneaton.
And Salmon insists that he and his colleagues must do all they can to get a result – not just for themselves, but for the other sides involved in the relegation dogfight.
He said: "We need to be professional for ourselves but also for other teams that are around us.
"If other teams around us need us to beat them to stay up, then so be it. We will be as professional as we can. There will be no favouritism."
Salmon, whose contract will expire next month, has been playing as a left-back for the last two games because of injuries to other defensive colleagues.
Telford boss John Psaras lost centre-back Michael Briscoe for the season on Saturday to ankle ligament damage.
Fellow centre-back Dan Preston (back) and regular left-back Ryan Valentine (groin) are also both doubtful for tomorrow.
Salmon has vowed to give his all again for the cause wherever he plays between now and the season and he will not allow himself to be distracted by any uncertainty.
Asked what the situation is regarding his plans for next season, he said: "The situation is play the last two games of the season and give my all.
"I think I have done that for the three years I have been here and when the managerial situation gets resolved, then we can sit down and discuss terms."
