AFC Telford 2 West Brom 1 - match analysis and pictures
[gallery] AFC Telford boss Liam Watson admitted he has been given food for thought by Saturday's 2-1 win over a young West Brom side at the New Bucks Head.
A stoppage-time winner from Jake Bennett didn't reflect the dominance the hosts had over the young Baggies after the break as Watson's side came from behind to grab victory.
Alex Jones netted a penalty for the visitors but they didn't lead at half-time after Adam Farrell's uncanny knack of scoring against Premier League teams in pre-season continued.
Bucks boss Watson was delighted with the application shown by his side with lasting impressions from new-boy Charlie Barnett, Bennett and even Martyn Jackson giving him cause for cheer.
Charlie Bennett, due to sign today as a marquee capture with a pedigree, after last serving Football League side Accrington Stanley, showed nice touches after coming on and will be an asset this term.
Telford have one last friendly at home to Bangor on Saturday before hosting Workington in their Conference North opener in 12 days' time.
And Watson agrees he is going to have some headaches picking the team if players continue to come to the fore as they did on Saturday.
He said: "We didn't make individual errors, were big on work-rate and those who played on Saturday have made my job even harder which, don't get me wrong, is a great position to be in.
"You look now at who starts and who doesn't on the opening day of the season and there's choices all over the pitch. I am pleased with the options I have got.
"At the moment, I probably know six players who are going to be in the team come Workington."
Jones had already stung Telford goalkeeper Ryan Young's fingers early on before the hosts fought back with Tony Gray going close with a shot wide of goalkeeper Jack Rose's right-hand post.
It was end-to-end stuff and a lovely lofted ball from Mike Phenix landed straight on the foot of Gray but he blundered twice trying to go for goal.
A straight shot should have been the outcome but Gray instead took a touch that was too light and invited Rose to gather, with a poor second stab at it all the invitation the goalkeeper needed.
West Brom were clearly hurting from losing Adil Nabi, who trudged off injured on 15 minutes, but they had the ball in the net on 20 minutes through Jones, but both he and George Cater were offside.
Eleven minutes later Telford saw another opportunity go begging when Wes Baynes' ball in across from the left wing fell to Phenix in the box, but he took a touch and fired wide.
Seconds later, Byrne's hesitance came back to haunt him after a long ball over the top dropped between him and Tavhon Campbell and he hauled the attacker down.
Up stepped Jones, who fired to Young's left to break the deadlock. However, the lead lasted all of nine minutes, as the topsy-turvy nature of the match was highlighted by an equaliser.
West Brom defender Bradley Garmston's ongoing war with Phenix saw him bash the ball against him. It went to Baynes who put the ball in where Phenix pushed it goalwards. Farrell, who scored goals against Manchester City and Wigan for AFC Fylde in pre-season last year, then got in on the act by forcing the ball over Rose and into the net.
After the break, Telford turned it on and attacked, as Gray fired wide with Rose beating away a fierce draw from Sean Clancy, while captain Simon Grand hit the crossbar with a header from Clancy's corner.
The young Baggies were reeling but looked to have held out until Bennett turned in the box and rifled an unstoppable drive into the top corner to hand the Bucks a deserved win.
