Liam Watson decides on AFC Telford side
AFC Telford United boss Liam Watson has already decided on his starting line-up for Saturday's Conference North opener at home to Workington.
The Bucks boss has picked his side for the club's first game back in non-league's second tier and will tell the players during tomorrow's final training session.
The squad posed for their team picture last night and were assigned their individual training kits, before partaking in a light training session at the New Bucks Head.
Only goalkeeper Ryan Young, Dan Preston and youth-team graduate Jake Bennett remain from last season's playing personnel, after Watson brought in 16 new signings.
He said: "I have probably made my mind up what I am going to go with on Saturday now. It's not the team that started at the weekend, put it that way.
"You look now and what we have done here this summer was probably the best way of doing it, we had a clean slate with the players we brought in.
"You don't go 30 games without a win if you are any good, so something had to give. I am made up with where we are."
Watson has negotiated two title-winning campaigns in the division during his time at Southport and believes home form will be key to their chances of success.
The visit of Workington, who finished 14th in the Conference North last season, will be seen as an ideal chance to get the Watson era up and running on Saturday.
Next week will see the Bucks hit the road as they first travel to Lincolnshire to play Boston United on Tuesday night, before heading to Gloucester City on the Saturday.
Hosting an opening day win could set the ball rolling nicely and Watson is calling on the people of Telford to pack the ground and make it a cauldron of noise.
He said: "We have got to get off to a good start and there will be a big gate on Saturday. What we want to do is make our ground an intimidating place to come.
"It would be great if we can do that with a large crowd each time."
The Bucks are arranging travel for supporters to next Tuesday's first away fixture of the season and fans can book their seats before and after the game on Saturday.
Advance bookings will only be taken with payments, which can be made on Saturday from 1.30pm to 2.45 pm and 5.15 pm to 6pm in the club's Learning Centre.
Alternatively you can pay by card by calling 01952 640 064. Supporters Trust members get a discount on away travel by producing a membership card.
