Matthew McGinn put on alert for his Bucks debut

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson must decide whether to hand Matthew McGinn his Conference North debut for the club at Boston United tonight.

McGinn sat out Saturday's 2-1 opening day win at home to Workington, serving a one-match suspension after his red card for Chester on the final day of last season.

Chris Lever filled in and may keep his place at left-back, so even winger Mike Phenix's place could be under threat if McGinn is pushed forward to the left wing.

Bucks boss Watson wasn't overly impressed with Phenix despite the winger picking up the man of the match award on Saturday, feeling that he was below par.

Watson will make a call before tonight's 7.45pm kick-off at York Street and could well make changes, after calling the Workington display "second rate" despite the win.

He said: "It's important that a lot of the players start getting games, particularly the ones that were not in the team on Saturday.

"We have got Matthew available, so he certainly comes into my thoughts."

Watson has never lost as a manager at Boston but the Pilgrims will be buoyed tonight after surprisingly thrashing another fallen Football League team, Stockport County.

Stockport were left stunned by a 4-1 collapse at Edgeley Park on Saturday with Boston's goals coming from Scott Garner, Marc Newsham, Spencer Weir-Daley and Ricky Miller.

Watson said: "To go to Stockport and give them a hiding on the opening day shows the forward options that Boston have. We have to be on our guard.

"We have to go there and give them a lot of respect. Yes, there will be a big crowd there, but you want to play in front of a big crowd.

"They are a club that have had a lot of troubles in the years gone past, but I have always found it a terrific place to go and play football.

"As a player, I have always scored goals there and, as a manager, I have a good record there."

It will be Telford's first trip to York Street since February 12, 2011, when the Bucks secured a 1-0 win.

Andy Brown's header proved decisive on that occasion in a match watched by 1,610 spectators.
