Josh Hancock grateful AFC Telford called again
AFC Telford United new-boy Josh Hancock today revealed he first had the chance to sign for the club in February before his close-season capture.
The 23-year-old joined for a nominal fee from Witton Albion earlier this month, having been watched on a number of occasions by boss Liam Watson.
But the star winger chose to see out the campaign with struggling Albion when the Bucks first came calling, feeling he owed a debt of loyalty to the club.
His 18-goal haul over the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League season helped them finish 16th and safe from relegation, after what was a disappointing season.
He said: "I enjoyed my time at Witton, they are a good set of lads there, but last season wasn't the greatest for the club. I first got the chance to go in February.
"It wasn't the right time to go with the predicament that Witton were in, so I stayed and they survived. And, luckily, Telford came back in for me.
"I used to have a bet with the other winger, Danny Andrews, about how many goals we would get that season. I got 16, 17 and 18 over three years.
"It seems like that has been noticed and I am hard-working. For a winger, I like to be physical and good in the air. I can move at a fair pace, too.
"I do like to come inside, I consider my best position to be on the left wing but I can bring it onto my right foot."
Hancock is now fully focussed making a go of life in the Skrill Conference Premier as Telford return to the level, having been crowned North champions.
He said: "I am really looking forward to it, it wasn't long since the season has finished that it was sorted and it was good to get the move straight away.
"I will relax for a few weeks now and look forward to when pre-season starts. I am looking forward to a new challenge and Telford are a big club.
"I want to test myself in the highest tier of non-league football and do well for the club, they have given me a chance and I want to pay them back.
"Quite a lot of teams are full-time but we are going to play part-time, which suits me as I have a day job as a surveyor in commercial property."
