Kristian Platt filling holes for AFC Telford
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson believes he has a plethora of defensive options after adding Kristian Platt to the mix this week.
Platt was viewed as a midfielder who could play at centre-half when he arrived from Stalybridge Celtic two weeks ago, but has filled in at right-back.
With Wes Baynes away on holiday, the 22-year-old took his place in Tuesday's 1-1 draw at home to Wolves and Thursday's 3-0 win away to Shawbury United.
Baynes is back after today's visit of Middlesbrough with Platt having made a favourable impression, leaving Watson confident he's covered in that area.
Chris Lever has also made a strong case for becoming his choice at left-back, with Rod McDonald another option on that side when he returns from an ankle injury.
Watson said: "Kristian has been great this week and that gives us another option, because right-back was the one area where we didn't have much cover.
"We always thought he could play in there anyway and, with Wes away this week, it's the perfect chance for him to do that. He's 6ft odd and, defensively, very strong.
"We have Chris Lever for either of the full-back positions and he's been bottling up wingers in pre-season. Rod is injured, at the moment, but he can also play on the left."
The Bucks boss pitched Steve Akrigg back in at the New Bucks Head today, with the centre-back netting the equaliser against Wolves before sitting out the Shawbury game.
Watson said: "We are looking quite solid at the back and you can see 'Akers' is getting stronger, gradually the fitness levels of everyone are getting better.
"Outside of the starting line-up against Wolves, we were lucky to be able to bring on two strikers, two midfielders and two wide players."
