Transfer business may wait for AFC Telford
AFC Telford United boss Liam Watson today played down the prospect of more new signings as he looks to drag his side off the foot of the Conference Premier.
The Bucks Head boss added Bermuda international goalkeeper Freddy Hall to his squad on Tuesday, after handing a debut to on-loan Luton Town centre-back Andy Parry in the 1-0 defeat to Forest Green Rovers.
He has also snapped up former Birmingham City defender Ryan Higgins on non-contract forms last month and now hopes to let his new-look squad "settle" after some encouraging recent signs.
Watson, who is waiting for news of defender Neill Byrne's knee injury, said: "I think sometimes you just have to step back and let it settle, because the more players you bring in the more unsettled it becomes.
"If we can get better players we'll always try to improve it but only if they're better than we have got.
"At this time of year when you're looking around, no-one is going to come from levels below, so you're looking at people moving down from levels above.
"Nine times out of 10, the ones you can from above are kids from League clubs and I don't really think it's a kids' league, especially in our present status.
"We're a young squad with people like Neill Byrne and Rod McDonald, but they've got 100-odd games at non-league level. It's important that they have got that little bit of experience with their youth.
"The ones you're getting from academies of league clubs haven't played anything apart from tippy-tappy academy football, so breaking them in at this level is probably asking too much."
Watson added: "If Neill Byrne is injured, the centre of defence is going to become a bit of an issue again and up front we just want people scoring."
