AFC Telford aim to extend Andy Parry loan

AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson is aiming to extend defender Andy Parry's stay at the New Bucks Head.

The Luton Town centre-half has impressed the Bucks chief in the three matches he has played so far following his arrival on an initial month's loan.

And, with injured skipper and fellow centre-half Steve Akrigg facing another six weeks on the sidelines, Watson is keen to see that deal extended.

He said: "I am obviously going to try to extend it and I'd like to take him through to January if I could.

"I think he reads the game well and he looks a cut above this level. Everything looks comfortable to him.

"He's not rushed and, if you look at the games he has played in, we have not really looked vulnerable at the back at all."

Parry, who joined the Bucks a fortnight ago, has two weeks to go on his current loan deal. Watson added that he was planning to speak to Luton boss John Still to discuss the issue.

Parry was one of two new arrivals to have been brought in, along with goalkeeper Freddy Hall, at the start of the month to help bolster the Bucks' leaking defence.

And Watson was delighted with the performances of both of his latest additions on Saturday as Telford beat Woking 3-1.

But he has been keen to share the praise around his squad following the team's heroic display against one of the division's early pace-setters.

He said: "It was all about the players on Saturday. There had been a good spirit and a good atmosphere on the way down to Woking.

"There has been a good feeling around the place for the last few weeks so they deserve that and it gives them a huge boost."

Telford were named non-league team of the week on Saturday by the BBC's 606 phone-in show.

But with the Bucks still seven points from safety, Watson insisted such praise won't go the the players' heads.

He said:"Obviously that's nice but we need to start climbing up the league."
