Sacked AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson insists he is not bitter about his departure from the New Bucks Head.

And he will take away some great memories from his eventful 19 months at the Bucks' helm.

Watson's final match in charge was Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Chester in the FA Trophy first round and he said: "I am not bitter in any way, shape or form.

"It is a good club, nice people, and I hope the next manager hits the ground running and they get a few wins to give them a fighting chance going into January.

"I totally understand the reasoning behind their decision and it was done face-to-face so I have got no complaints, no axe to grind."

He added that he felt last Tuesday's home defeat to fellow strugglers Welling United had probably been the last straw for his reign.

The Bucks, rooted to the bottom of the Conference Premier, have endured a dismal record against other sides in the bottom half of the table.

Watson said: "I suppose the decision was made after Tuesday and, going off that performance, no one could complain."

Asked what have been the highlights of his time in the hot seat at the New Bucks Head, he agreed winning the Conference North title in his first season was his best memory.

But he also named the lucrative sale of Mike Phenix to Barnsley and reaching the FA Cup second round, where they suffered an injury-time defeat to Bristol City, were also proud moments.

He said: "The last day of last season, winning the league – that will always be one of my best memories. On the whole, I have had a good spell.

"That was obviously the catalyst for it but, even though this season has been poor,I have sold a player into the Football League and got the team the furthest they have been in the FA Cup.

"But this year was probably summed up last Sunday by that one little bit of bad luck in the last few seconds against Bristol. That is just the way it has been this year."

Watson plans a 'little bit of a chill' before deciding his next move.
