Mike Grogan staying as another joins Telford

AFC Telford United midfielder Mike Grogan won't be joining the exodus from the New Bucks Head – as the club made the first of what may be a series of signings.

Grogan, 26, has seen team-mates Ian Sharps and John Disney leave following relegation after they agreed verbally to stay.

Sharps is going to an unnamed National League club, while Disney has rejoined Hednesford.

But Grogan said: "I have agreed to stay. I haven't spoken to anyone else."

That wasn't the only good news for boss Steve Kittrick, who last night did a deal with former Hyde attacking full-back Josh Brizell, as he bids to put together a team to push for promotion from National League North.

The 23-year-old, who started with Rochdale, was the Tigers' player of the year in 2014 and their Young Player of the Season for the previous season.

He was one of a number of possible targets spoken to by Kittrick last night and the first one over the line by agreeing to join.

Former Cammell Laird man Grogan, meanwhile, wants the club to rebuild for a title push after being part of the promotion side the last time they played at that level.

He said:"Hopefully, we can have some success next season. We won the league the last time we were in the Conference North, so I don't see why we can't do that again."

Scouser Grogan is hoping Telford can also 'win it prettier' this time around after 'mixing it' on their way to the title under boss Liam Watson a year ago.

He said: "Last time it wasn't very pretty but last season even though we were relegated, we played better football than when we won the title.

"So if we can make some good signings then hopefully we'll have a better squad and we can try to win it again."
