AFC Telford receive double transfer blow
AFC Telford United defender Neill Byrne's is set to sign for Macclesfield – as boss Steve Kittrick lost out on midfield target Andrai Jones.
The Bucks have also agreed an undisclosed fee with another club for the sale of Byrne, but the Silkmen are favourites to land the former Ireland Under-21 international as he has chosen to join them, albeit for a lesser salary.
"We've agreed an exit strategy for Neill, and I think he's going to Macclesfield for an undisclosed amount but with a hefty sell-on fee," said Kittrick.
Byrne will become the second cash exit in a week after the sale of Adam Farrell to Stalybridge Celtic.
Kittrick has mixed feelings about the departure of a player who he had earmarked as his new captain when the 23-year-old said he was staying last month.
"He wanted to leave and put himself on the transfer list, then he wanted to stay and he's had an offer at the last minute," he said.
"I understand he wants to play full-time football but the to-ing and fro-ing has been frustrating.
"He doesn't want to play part-time and we don't want anyone here who doesn't want to play for Telford."
"He's going to Macclesfield on a lot less money but I think he'd have been better staying here until January and getting another 20 games under his belt then having a look, because he's hardly played under me.
Meanwhile, Gateshead midfielder Jones has agreed to join Conference Premier side Southport after turning down Telford.
"We offered him a good deal but he's decided to go to Southport," said Kittrick.
"We can only offer them what we can offer them and we'll move on."
Meanwhile, freed Shrewsbury Town striker Niall Flint, who had been training with Telford, has gone to Scottish Premier League side Ross County for a trial .
