Telford trialists get a chance to impress
AFC Telford United are set to run the rule over more trialists at tonight's opening friendly at Shifnal Town – with more talks planned with target Craig Roddan.
Manager Steve Kittrick intends to field at least one new name in his Bucks squad for the Shropshire Senior Cup semi-final at Phoenix Park (7.45pm).
And new signing Zak Lilly, 17, could also be set for a first senior run-out.
Summer signings Ben Harrison, Mat Bailey, Mason Springthorpe, Tom Thorley, Jay Denny, Neil Harvey, Kyle Brownhill, Jordan Goddard, Danny O'Callaghan, Johnny Gorman, Izak Reid and Dave Hibbert are all set to figure alongside existing players James Montgomery, Sean Clancy and Mike Grogan.
Involved
Telford are still hoping to sign freed Shrewsbury duo Niall Flint and Alex Fletcher after they underwent a week's trial at Scottish Premier League side Ross County, and both could be involved tonight.
Right-back Josh Brizell, who broke his wrist in two places in training, is the only certain absentee.
"There may be one or two trialists coming in specifically for this game," confirmed director and head of youth David Topping.
"I do know Steve wants to look at other players who are trialists
"When I spoke to Steve, he said there would be some first-team squad members involved.
"Things are quite fluid at the moment so there may be others who we're not aware of at the moment."
Kittrick remains in talks with Roddan, 22, with a view to signing the former Liverpool academy midfielder.
"I would say it's still 'live'," said Topping. "When I spoke to Steve yesterday he said he was still in discussions about the monetary aspects and that each time they had spoken, they were getting closer to an agreement."
