AFC Telford draw - Pictures, video and report

Were the real reason not known, you might conclude AFC Telford United are wearing their 2013-14 kit to evoke the spirit of that title-winning season.

Steve Kittrick's 2015-16 outfit are certainly not of that vintage yet, with this frustrating draw proof they remain very much a work in progress.

Curzon Ashton, promoted last year from the Evo-Stik Premier, arrived content to take a point and got it with relative comfort, barring a few nervy moments in the closing stages.

For Kittrick, the clean sheet was at least an improvement following Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Lowestoft, even if they are still waiting for their first goal of the campaign.

An early injury to summer signing Dave Hibbert, whose Bucks home debut last less than six minutes, is unlikely to help in that regard.

His replacement, 18-year-old Kaiman Anderson, missed two great chances to win it late on.

Despite the fallout of Saturday's opening day 3-0 defeat, Kittrick opted to stick with the same starting line-up.

Telford began brightly with Jack Roberts going close inside three minutes when he sent a half volley whistling over the bar after Hibbert had flicked on a Gorman throw.

Glover then headed over at the far post after an incisive pass from Greg Wilkinson had sent Gorman clear down the right.

Telford (4-2-3-1): Montgomery, Reid, Deaman, Lees, Clancy, Rea, Wilkinson, Glover (Brownhill 77), Gorman, Roberts (Fletcher 77), Hibbert (Anderson 6).

Subs not used: Harrison, Springthorpe (gk).

Curzon: Burton, Frost, Grayson, Hunt, Shaw, Lakeland, Wright (Rowney 70), Brown, Burnett, Warburton, Tomsett.

With Anderson entering the fray inside six minutes, Telford were not afraid to hit the Shrewsbury youngster early and one long pass almost caught out visiting keeper Hakan Burton, who just about avoided carrying the ball out of the area after fumbling it.

Gorman was the home side's biggest threat and another cross from the right fell to Roberts. His header looked to be heading into the far corner before Curzon defender Jon Hunt appeared to clear with Burton rooted to the spot.

Gorman was then the first to seriously test the visiting stopper when he cut inside from the left and let fly with a curling left-footed effort which Burton, diving to his left, was able to palm round the post.

But as the half-hour approached, so did the hosts momentum, with Anderson cutting an ever more isolated figure up front.

Curzon were perhaps understandably happy to sit back offered little as an attacking force, with a blocked shot from Daniel Shaw their only serious effort of the half.

Indeed, the most nervous moments of Telford's half were caused by themselves. An under-hit Sean Clancy pass was just about cleared by keeper James Montgomery in front of visiting striker Matt Warburton.

In a more serious incident moments from the end of the half, a miscommunication allowed Warburton to steal in and steal a loose ball with only the alertness of Montgomery, who was able to get a strong palm to the ball, preventing disaster.

Anderson saw a chance early in the second half go begging when he was unable to get a shot away under pressure from Liam Tomsett.

Full-back Izak Reid did his best to raise the tempo with a twisting run but his eventual shot was straight at Burton, though a 30-yard Wilkinson free-kick which rather dribbled along the ground to the keeper rather summed up the home side's attacking efforts to that point.

Deaman saw a header from a corner cleared in front of Burton, while the biggest cheer of the night arrived when Gorman's long range shot clattered into the lettering above the Frank Nagington Stand, sending the F spiralling to the turf below.

Aside from that moment of humour, the home crowd were becoming increasingly restless and maybe sensing the mood Telford upped the tempo.

Anderson saw a cross destined for Glover cut out at the last minute, while Gorman was unlucky to see a volley blocked after he had met a deep Reid cross at the far post. From the corner, Roberts then volleyed over.

Curzon had again offered little but burst to life in the closing stages with Montgomery getting down well to parry Burnett's shot, before Chris Rowney, just on as a substitute, sent the rebound over the bar.

Then came the Bucks best chance as Glover found Anderson in acres of space 12 yards out. The forward had time to take a touch but sent his shot straight at Burton with the goal at this mercy.

It quickly almost proved costly as Curzon broke and again Burnett drew a smart save from Montgomery.

Anderson missed another chance to win it when he headed a Kyle Brownhill free-kick straight at Burton after being left unmarked.
