Telford director David Topping resigns
AFC Telford United's director of match day operations David Topping has resigned with immediate effect.
Topping, who has served in the post for 11 years, cited work commitments outside the football club as the reason.
He insists the decision is purely work-related and has called on fans to get behind returning boss Rob Smith and assistant Larry Chambers.
"From a work point of view, in recent times I have probably spent too much time on the football side," he said.
"I'm looking to spend more time on business; anybody who has been involved with non-league football will know it's a balancing act which is hard to get right. It's time to let somebody else take the reins.
"I've been a director for 11 years but a fan for 40 years, so it will be a bit strange not being there regularly. I'll still be following them.
"Rob and Larry know the league well; I think the big plus is that the change was made early on in the season to give them the time to turn it around and I'm confident in them doing it. I would like to wish the chairman Ian Dossier and all at the club every success."
n Telford will travel to Kettering Town in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup later this month.
Rob Smith's side were paired with the Poppies, who beat Market Drayton Town in the last round, in yesterday's draw.
Three leagues separated the two sides last season but now just 17 places are between them, with Telford bottom of the National League North after dropping out of the Conference Premier and Kettering 16th in the Southern Premier League after winning Division One Central last season.
The tie is at Latimer Park on Saturday September 26.
