Jake Hibbs poised to sign as duo depart Bucks

Telford United are set to clinch the signing of teenage FC Halifax midfielder Jake Hibbs – as Rob Smith allowed two more players to leave.

Hibbs trained with the Bucks last night after agreeing a month's loan and should be available for tomorrow's visit of Boston United.

As 19-year-old Hibbs arrived, Smith prepared to say goodbye to Jordan Goddard and Mark Lees, joining Sutton Coldfield and Ashton on loan respectively.

Smith is delighted to have captured Hibbs, who has played 12 Conference Premier games this season for the Shaymen, starting eight times.

"Jake's a box-to-box player with fantastic quality on the ball but who can also put a foot in when he needs to," said the boss. "So he'll give us great energy in the middle of the park and he fits the ball for us at the moment.

"Their new manager Darren Kelly has assessed the squad and feels he needs to make changes, which means certain players will not be playing."

Goddard will join Zak Lilley at Sutton after the youngster extended his stay there by a month.

And the pair, plus Lees, Jack Roberts, Mike Grogan and others who have gone out on loan, have been praised for their attitude by Smith.

"These lads have intimated they want to play here and are happy to come back and fight for a place, but they recognise they need to get games," he said.

Curtis Tilt is available again after a one-match ban but is sweating on his place after last week's clean sheet against Stalybridge Celtic.

Smith warned he might have to fight for his place as they seek back-to-back home wins – despite being the manager's best player since his arrival.

"It's a case of picking four from five depending on the opposition," he said. "Boston will be tough, they're a good side on a good run."
