AFC Telford boss hits back at Frank Sinclair

AFC Telford United manager Rob Smith hit back at Hednesford Town counterpart Frank Sinclair in a row over their latest postponement.

Smith has responded to a tweet from Sinclair, who criticised the decision to postpone the home derby against the Pitmen for a second time on Tuesday night.

The game has been re-arranged again and will now take place on Tuesday January 26.

Sinclair tweeted: "Not sure who's calling the shots at @telfordutd but whoever it is, they need to shake their head big time, and see what comes out #joke"

Smith replied: "Frank can say what he likes, but the pitch was unplayable – everyone who was there could see that.

"I don't think anyone who was there could have complained about the decision. The problem was it was still raining and it didn't look like stopping."

Meanwhile, Greg Wilkinson has joined National League Premier side Halifax on loan for the rest of the season.

The former Manchester United academy midfielder and winger Johnny Gorman were told by Smith to stay away from the club after the FA Trophy defeat against Chester on December 12.

Smith said: "It's a good move for Greg and the chance to play in the Premier and I hope he does well there.

"Greg is a talented footballer, but he doesn't fit into my plans and he perhaps isn't the type we need for a relegation fight."

The departure of Wilkinson frees up a wage and Smith is hoping to land at least one signing for Saturday's trip to Gainsborough Trinity, when on-loan Wolves winger Eusebio Bancessi will be available.

Smith is without striker Dave Hibbert (hamstring) and left-back Kyle Brownhill (ankle) until the visit of Bradford Park Avenue a week on Saturday.

It has left him with just two fit forwards in Richard Peniket and Ryan Rowe.
