AFC Telford reach last four of the Youth Cup
Super-fit AFC Telford United dug their way through to the Shropshire FA Youth Challenge Cup semi-finals.
Just 24 hours after the Under-18 side had won a gruelling 3-2 victory against Allscott, they faced Ellesmere Rangers in the cup – and had to endure extra time before winning 3-1.
Home side Ellesmere, who have made the competition their own in recent years, played a full part in a hard-fought game.
Telford should have taken the lead midway through the first half with a penalty for handball. Telford skipper Tom Edge took responsibility but his effort was easily saved.
The home side struck on the stroke of half-time when Owen Taylor was penalised in the box and Liam Jones made no mistake from the spot.
Telford equalised in the second-half, Ben Osei firing home in a crowded box to force extra time.
Taylor left for hospital with a broken nose after the first period and his replacement Joe Daley fired home a spot-kick after Osei was felled in the area.
The hosts hit the bar, but Telford's Benji Robinson broke and his cross brought a neat flicked goal for Osei.
