AFC Telford United have been handed a summer boost as star attacker Josh Wilson has signed a deal to remain at the New Bucks Head.

But two members of last season's squad, Mike Grogan and Izak Reid, have been released.

Merseyside attacking midfielder Wilson originally joined from high-fliers AFC Fylde in February and was a vital part of the Bucks securing their National League North status.

He finished the campaign with seven goals, level with forward Connor McCarthy. Wilson also captained Telford on the final day at Chorley.

The 27-year-old has attracted interested from a number of clubs but after meetings with Telford's management Rob Smith and Larry Chambers, has decided to stay.

Wilson, who also has Vauxhall Motors and FC Halifax as former clubs, revealed at the end of last season that he wished to remain at the club due to his relationship with Smith, Chambers and the Telford fans.

Central defenders Dan Preston and Ben Bailey and utility man James Hurst are Telford's three new faces so far this summer.

Wilson joins Darren Campion, Lucas Dawson, James Montgomery, Dwayne Samuels and Zak Lilly to commit for next season - while forward Dave Hibbert enters the second of a two year deal.

Grogan was signed by former boss Liam Watson in 2013 and was one of the club's longest-serving players.

He endured a tough opening to last season, even spending time out on loan at Warrington Town.

But the 27-year-old returned to the fold and put in some key performances as Smith's side secured their league on the penultimate weekend of the season.

Winger Reid, who was signed last summer by Steve Kittrick, put in a string of impressive performances earlier in the season before a serious injury saw the former Barrow man struggle to recapture any of his match sharpness.

Skipper Jack Rea and defender Curtis Tilt remain in talks with the hierarchy and decisions over the duo are set to be made in the coming days.
