AFC Telford United hoping to switch fixture

AFC Telford United are trying to avoid a blank weekend by bringing forward a league match.

They were originally due to host Brackley Town on Saturday, October 15 – but that match will be rearranged due to the Saints' progression in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.

However, the Bucks still hope to be in National League North action on the day.

They are looking to bring a league fixture forward in order to avoid another weekend off – they did not play this past weekend due to FA Cup third qualifying round fixtures taking place.

Boss Rob Smith said: "Ideally we will get a fixture.

"I think most of the teams who are not in the FA Cup would like to be playing on the day.

"That is the ideal scenario, there a couple of options we are looking at.

"Hopefully we will get it sorted but we will know by the end of the week."

Although the club are working hard to get a fixture, Smith has also appreciated the benefits of a gap in the league schedule.

"It has been nice to have a bit of a break," he said. "It has given the players the chance to rest – everybody is feeling good.

"It has given the players a good physical break but more than anything it has given them a mental break from it all, which is good.

"It has allowed the players to re-charge their batteries and we will come back feeling refreshed."

A couple of players went into the break carrying slight knocks. Dave Hibbert was replaced in the 75th minute of the recent match with Chorley after struggling following a heavy challenge.

Jonathan Royle was due to the start that game but was withdrawn from the squad at the last minute after aggravating an ankle injury in the warm-up.

"The players are feeling good and I expect to have a full list of names to choose from against Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday," added Smith.

"Jonathan Royle has recovered well from his knock.

"He will miss the game through suspension, though."
