Rob Smith: 'Not disappointed' with AFC Telford performance

AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith insists he is 'not disappointed in the performance' despite his side's 2-0 loss to Salford City.

In front of a 1,841-strong crowd at the New Bucks Head, Simon Grand and James Poole got the goals for the Ammies.

Telford's James Hurst was sent off after picking up two bookings - the first for dissent just before half-time, and the second for a late challenge on the hour mark.

On the sending off, Smith said: "I am not going to take everybody who is on a yellow card off at half-time.

"There were a few on yellow cards and I don't know what some of them were for - Ben Bailey got booked for kicking air.

"You have got to trust a player like Hurst, who has got the experience and the nous to cope with being on a yellow card."

Salford had already scored their two goals by the time Hurst was dismissed.

On the performance of his charges, Smith added: "I thought it was a bit of a harsh lesson for us, really. We got punished and we didn't punish them.

"The first goal comes from a set piece - we got punished - and the second one we should have done better with.

"I do feel we had a bit of bad luck in front of goal, rather than it being poor finishing - we have hit the bar and their keeper had a blinder.

"I am not disappointed in the performance - we gave everything and we have played worse in the past and got results."
