AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith has urged his charges to 'concentrate on football' – as the club delayed an announcement on its off-field future by 24 hours.

New Bucks Head officials said they would release an official statement yesterday in regards to the application for shares, which is now expected today.

With mystery still surrounding the club's future, boss Smith told his players to remain fully focused on Saturday's trip to Halifax.

"We just have to concentrate on the football and getting a result at Halifax on Saturday," he said.

"What goes on off the field is for the people off the field to deal with and we have to make sure we are fully prepared for the game as they are a good side."

Having previously been owned by supporters, the club held a vote in November to change their ownership model to allow external investment. Of the 123 votes cast, 118 voted in favour, three voted against and two ballot papers were spoiled.

That saw 500 lots of £100 shares go on sale. However, no one person or organisation could purchase more than 20 per cent of the club.

The sale was open for 21 days before closing at 1pm on Tuesday.

A club statement issued yesterday read: "The Board of AFC Telford United met last night (Tuesday) to review share applications, a full club statement on this will be issued on Thursday."
