Rob Smith salutes Telford's Eddie Jones
AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith has heaped praise on midfielder Eddie Jones for playing through the pain barrier, adding: “He was a real hero.”
Jones – who was expected to miss the rest of the season as he is due for an operation on a hernia – got through 75 minutes as the Bucks drew 1-1 at Stockport County on Friday night.
That result put Telford seven points clear of the National League North drop zone as they headed into today’s visit of Nuneaton Town.
Smith was pleased with the efforts of all his players at Edgeley Park, but on Jones he said: “More so with Eddie because he is struggling so badly, and he’s in a lot of pain.
“He has got to go in under the knife soon but we’ve asked him to go through a brick wall for us, and he did on Friday night.
“Eddie was first class. We had to ask him whether he could help and play for us. He’s in agony and he has gone through a real pain barrier for me so fair play to him.”
