Larry Chambers: AFC Telford's Chekaine Steele and Luke Shaw will excite fans
Larry Chambers believes new-boys Chekaine Steele and Luke Shaw add a new dimension to AFC Telford United and will get supporters on their feet.
Steele and Shaw, who are both out-and-out wingers, are two of 15 players announced for this upcoming season’s Bucks squad and have joined from Worcester City and Grantham Town respectively.
Assistant boss Chambers feels the pair have a lot to offer as Telford hope to fare much better in National League North this time around after a couple of relegation scraps, and said: “We lacked any real width last season, and people know that.
“We did not have any real wide players with pace, but now we have Luke and Chekaine here.
“They are both young players and both exciting, with a lot of potential – I think they are going to be real crowd pleasers for us.
“For Luke, he is jumping up a division and is looking to prove himself at this level.
“For Chekaine, he has experience of the division and needs to show his quality on a more consistent basis.”
Telford were very much shot-shy last season, netting just 38 goals in their 42 league games.
When asked if Steele and Shaw can play a big part in boosting their goal tally, Chambers said: “I hope so. It’s well-documented, across non-league, the area we struggled in was up front last season – we did not score enough goals.
“We are still on the lookout for a proven goalscorer, but we have to be patient – because we don’t have the biggest budget, and everyone is looking for a 20-goal striker.
“Hopefully Luke and Chekaine can help us get more goals.”
Chambers also insists he is very happy that midfielder Jon Royle is staying at the club.
The 22-year-old made 20 appearances last season and agreed fresh terms amid interest from other clubs in the division.
Chambers added: “We are pleased that he decided to stay with us.
“He is at the right age, and he has the tools to be a very good player.
“He’s shown in flashes what he can do, we have seen it – but just not enough. He needs to be more consistent.
“We would like him to fulfil his potential with us.”
Meanwhile, former Telford defender Curtis Tilt has signed for League One side Blackpool.
He spent the 2015/16 season with the Bucks and has penned a two-year deal with the Tangerines.
