The 20-year-old midfielder, son of former Aston Villa star Gordon Cowans, made his Bucks bow on Tuesday night as they won 2-0 at Nuneaton Town.

He was released by Villa this summer and had a loan spell at League Two side Stevenage last season.

“The main thing was that I needed to go somewhere and start playing again,” said Cowans.

“I haven’t been here long but there seems to be a great bunch of lads, they have all been really welcoming.

“In training and on Tuesday, I could see the style of the team and what the manager wants – working hard and looking to play good football.

“I think that suits me. I was a bit nervous on Tuesday, in terms of what my fitness would be like, but I got through it well and I’m just looking to impress and help the team.”

Cowans is set to be involved as Telford host Harrogate Town tomorrow looking for their first home point.

The Bucks go into the clash having lost all four of their National League North games at the New Bucks Head so far.

Although his first home game for Telford, Cowans is familiar with the ground having played there for Villa’s under-23s against Wolves on a few occasions.

“Villa have played Telford in pre-season over the last couple of years and I was on the bench for one of them – the first one,” he said.

“I have played there a few times for Villa against Wolves as well.

“I have come in and from what I have seen so far, it is all very well-run – there is not a bad word to say about the place.”

He added: “I am just looking to get settled now, keep playing games and do well.

“It will be a tough game tomorrow against Harrogate and I know the results have not gone the way we would have liked at home so far.

“We are all working hard to correct that and get our first win at home, to give the fans what they deserve – something that they can shout about.

“It has something that all of the players have spoke about a lot.”
