AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards braced for a tough test at Chorley
Rob Edwards insists his AFC Telford United side go into tomorrow’s clash at Chorley as the underdogs.
The Bucks have been great on their travels in National League North so far, picking up four wins and a loss.
And the Magpies, who lost to FC Halifax Town in last season’s play-off final and have ex-Telford duo Josh Wilson and Matt Urwin in their ranks, have won two, drawn two and lost one at home.
The form book points towards a close encounter at Victory Park, and Edwards said: “They pose a tough test – they are physical but have some very good footballers as well.
“They have a very distinctive style and they did great last season, surprised a few people.
“I think people are well aware of them now and the threat they carry.
“They’re the favourites, but we are doing well and we are feeling confident going into it.”
The Bucks lost this fixture 2-1 last campaign – and the term prior.
“I have not been before but I have been told it is a difficult place to go,” Edwards added.
“We know it will be hard, but we are looking forward to it.”
Telford have made a signing ahead of the game, bringing in left-back Ryan Wilson from Evo-stik Northern Premier outfit Matlock Town.
The 24-year-old – son of former Chelsea striker and ex-Nuneaton Town boss Kevin Wilson – came through the ranks at Stockport County and has also played for Gateshead and Alfreton Town.
“He is someone we have been aware of for a little while,” Edwards said.
“He is a good player, he has good experience and a great attitude.
“We had him in for training on Tuesday and he will be with us going forward, we are glad to have got a deal done.
“And he’ll settle in quickly as the group we have are very welcoming.”
Centre-half Connor Johnson, who is on loan at the Bucks from Wolves, will not feature in this game.
It will be the second of a three-match ban – split into one match for a red card against Harrogate Town on September 9, and two for being fielded in a Checkatrade Trophy game for Wolves last season when he was ineligible.
Jordan Lussey, who has a groin injury, is set to be assessed. Jack Rea (ankle) will not be involved.
