AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards: We need the FA Cup in our lives
Rob Edwards insists the FA Cup is a welcome distraction for AFC Telford United ahead of their third qualifying round replay tomorrow night.
The Bucks are taking on Stafford Rangers at the New Bucks Head, after a 1-1 draw at Marston Road on Saturday.
They were set to find out today who they will face at the next stage – when National League teams enter – if they beat Boro.
"It is a massive opportunity for us to build on what we are trying to do," said Edwards.
"We want the FA Cup in our lives, we want to go as deep and as far as we can in it.
"It is an amazing competition and one we want to try to do well in. It is very much needed.
"If the lads do well and get some attention, grab the headlines, that is great.
"But we do not want to be on the wrong end of the headlines, we know tomorrow will be a battle."
Telford switched their formation to 4-3-3 on Saturday and it allowed John Marsden, who pulled them level late on, to roam free as a false no.9.
On whether that change was by design or enforced because of having four players – Connor Johnson, Ryan Wilson, Jack Rea and Aaron Simpson – ruled out through unavailability and injuries, Edwards said: "It was a bit of both.
"We had watched them last week and just felt it would be a real way of putting pressure on them, trying to stop that long ball, and having a real threat.
"We had a front three, not a front two, although it obviously drops down when you are defending.
"That was the reason why, and I think it suited with the personnel. We will see what happens tomorrow night."
The draw was the Bucks' first in competitive action under Edwards.
They levelled when a man down, too, as Aaron Hayden was dismissed for an off-the-ball incident – raising his hand to Richard Gregory's face.
"It is good to come back and get a draw, important for belief and confidence," Edwards added.
"I would have been surprised, even with 10 men, if we had not have scored. I always felt we would get one.
"We have got to recover properly now."
