AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards: Relish big FA Cup clash
Rob Edwards has urged his AFC Telford United players to ‘relish the occasion’ as they take on Hereford in the FA Cup first round tomorrow.
There is sure to be a fantastic atmosphere at what is set to be a packed-out Edgar Street.
More than 700 Bucks supporters are making the trip, with just a few tickets still up for grabs, while the hosts have sold all of theirs.
“It’s about going into it with the right mentality – handling the occasion and making sure that we relish the occasion as well,” said Edwards.
“We want to try to play with a bit of freedom and enjoy it for what it is really – a big game in front of a big crowd.
“Hereford have some very good players and have beaten sides higher than us in the past, so they certainly cannot be taken lightly. It will be tough and we are looking forward to it.”
National League North side Telford go into the first round clash after victories against Barwell, Stafford Rangers and FC United of Manchester in the competition.
The Bulls – who play a tier below the Bucks, in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier – have beaten Godalming Town, Kempston Rovers, Hornchurch and Eastleigh.
Edwards will be without defender Ross White for the game at Edgar Street, which can hold more than 4,900 fans, as he starts a three-match suspension for a straight red card in the recent 3-2 loss at Gainsborough Trinity.
John Marsden and Jack Rea are both set to miss out with ankle injuries while Louis McGrory is not at 100 per cent after taking a heavy knock to his right foot in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Southport.
The Telford chief knows they are short on numbers, with Ryan Wilson cup-tied too, but insists he is not looking to bring in any more players just yet.
“There is nothing happening at the moment,” added Edwards.
“Of course, we wouldn’t be doing our job right if we were not on the lookout, seeing what’s out there and if there is anywhere we can improve.
“But as of right now, there’s not anything.”
