Work being done on AFC Telford's pitch
AFC Telford United are taking action on the New Bucks Head pitch in an attempt to solve a suspected drainage issue.
The Bucks have had two of their last three scheduled home games postponed due to the surface being waterlogged.
Rob Edwards' side are facing a fixture backlog in National League North and to try to make sure Tuesday's visit of York City – originally supposed to take place on December 9 – goes ahead, extra work is being done.
"We're getting the tractor on there and punching holes into the surface," explained Telford groundsman Mick Conway.
"This means that if we do have any rain over the weekend, there'll be somewhere for the water to go instead of it just resting on the top of the surface.
"We think there has been a bit of a drainage problem on one side of the pitch. And if there is, we'll put that right.
"We're investigating it and I would say, personally, that Tuesday's game will go ahead."
The problems with the pitch began with the heavy snowfall last month.
There had been a lot of rain before covers were put down to protect the surface from the snow, and a fair amount after the covers were removed.
The Boxing Day home clash with Kidderminster Harriers went ahead but it was very muddy, particularly in the second half, and the game ended 0-0.
"With putting the covers on, there was a slight thaw," said Conway.
"There was rain after it too. We haven't had that much dry weather recently, there has been a lot of rainfall.
"In some leagues, games have been started and then not finished.
"We don't want that and we don't want games to be called off."
He added: "I do think that we'll get it sorted for Tuesday.
"I'm confident we'll go ahead."
Telford – who head to table-toppers Salford City on Saturday – are yet to confirm a new date for their home match against Curzon Ashton.
It was originally due to take place this past weekend but was called off several hours beforehand, following a pitch inspection.
Meanwhile, the club have announced details for their end-of-season awards evening.
It will take place on Saturday, April 21, with tickets priced at £20.
