Elliot Newby determined to boost AFC Telford's survival bid
Popular AFC Telford winger Elliot Newby is champing at the bit to help resurrect the Bucks' season.
The 22-year-old has been struggling with a hamstring complaint for a number of weeks and admits he should not have started in the 5-3 defeat to York City on January 16.
Fortunately the lively wideman has not missed much football for Telford, who were plagued by postponements throughout January.
Although not expected to start in the crucial bottom of the table six-pointer against North Ferriby today, Newby is itching to get back involved and help steer the Bucks away from their perilous position.
"It's been a bit difficult as I've been so eager to get involved and play," said the ex-Altrincham and Barrow man.
"I shouldn't have played against York really.
"I don't think it necessarily damaged it more, but I wasn't at 100 per cent for a couple of weeks.
"I've made good progress over the last couple of weeks, working with the physio (Jake Roe).
"I've been out for three and a half weeks, but I've only actually missed one game.
"Hopefully I can be available for selection soon. I'm dying to get back out there.
"But, at the same time, I need to make sure I am right and not rush it.
"I'll go with the advice of Jake."
Newby has netted five goals from 21 starts since his summer move from Barrow. His last start prior to the York goal-fest was at Brackley on December 23.
But the winger, a product of Bolton Wanderers' academy and signed by previous boss Rob Smith, remains a highly-rated figure in the eyes of Bucks fans.
He insists that Telford's spirit remains unaffected by Bucks' barren run that has seen them slip to second-bottom in the National League North.
And added that the entire squad, including Edwards' latest recruits, are behind the 'same goal'.
"It's still very positive," Newby added. "The results have not affected the mood.
"It's a very tight-knit group here, we're all on the same page and working towards the same goal.
"The new lads have fitted right in as well."
The funeral for long-serving supporter, volunteer, employee and life member Derek Wellings was held yesterday at Telford Crematorium. Wellings, a fan of more than 50 years, passed away last month.
