Rob Edwards has hailed AFC Telford United for adjusting to difficult conditions to pull off a big win in their quest for survival.

They are now 18th, two points clear of the bottom three, in National League North after a 3-2 triumph against Leamington.

The very muddy New Bucks Head pitch meant it was not a classic but they dug down deep, with Dom Smith netting the winner.

"We had to manage the conditions. I don't think Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp will have watched it and picked up any tips," said Edwards.

"We played the conditions very, very well, against a team that are very good at playing in those sorts of conditions.

"A few from their side were saying 'are you sure you want to play this, as we're better at this than you?'

"I let the players know that before the game and we've come out on top. The pitch has been like this quite a long time now - there has just been so much bad weather.

"Credit to (groundsman) Mick Conway for getting the game on in the first place. It is difficult, though, and you have to play forward early."

Marcus Dinanga put the Bucks in front with his 20th goal of the season.

Junior English and Daniel Udoh then put the Brakes ahead, before skipper Shane Sutton equalised and Smith struck for the first time since joining from Shrewsbury Town.

"I'm really pleased with the players, all of them. Once again, they've put us through the mill a bit - a rollercoaster of emotions," said Edwards.

"I'm just delighted as it was a really important game, arguably as big as it has been all season.

"We all knew the importance of it and I'm just delighted we were on the right side of it. Three points, three goals. We looked strong."

Edwards was also keen to praise the opposition.

He feels Leamington, who had former Telford men Kieran Dunbar and Callum Gittings in their midfield, will also stay up.

Edwards added: "Leamington are good at what they do. They make it tough for a lot of teams.

"I'm confident they will stay in the league and Paul Holleran will be manager of the season when they do that."
