AFC Telford chief Rob Edwards happy with his centre-halves
AFC Telford United boss Rob Edwards has expressed his delight with the determination shown by defensive duo Shane Sutton and Dom Smith.
Skipper Sutton and Smith got the goals as the Bucks came from behind to beat Spennymoor Town 3-2 on Thursday.
The win put them two points above the National League North relegation zone, before they went to Stockport County today.
“I’m delighted with that. We did look a threat from set pieces and that’s a really important part of the game,” said former Wolves centre-half Edwards.
“I’m really pleased with those two, because I was a little disappointed with the way we conceded.
“For them to show character and the will to get on the end of stuff, that was great.”
Sutton’s header was his second goal since signing from Newtown last summer.
Smith’s was his first since joining from Shrewsbury Town.
On today’s game at Stockport, who are aiming to clinch a play-off place, and the quest for survival, Edwards added: “Thursday gets us above one or two but the job is far from done.
“We’ve got a huge game now, we’ve got to again.
“There’s a good chance (changes will be made). I’ve got to learn from the past games where we’ve had little time to recover.
“We’re going to one of the toughest places in the league. We’re going to need all our energy and all our strength – we’ve got that in reserve.
“Players on the bench, and even not involved, on Thursday can come in and stake a claim.
“That’s up to me and the staff, to make the right decisions.
“Whatever team we pick, we know we will get 100 per cent commitment to the cause as the common goal is to stay up – whether you will be at this club next year or not.”
