The Bucks’ 3-2 comeback victory over Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday did the job.

There are two games of this campaign, one being tomorrow’s trip to Spennymoor Town, to go and then Edwards will be fully focused on building for next term.

“I said it on the first day I got here, I feel really proud and honoured to be the manager of this football club – my local town,” he said.

“I don’t feel any differently about that now.

“What it’s done is give me a real insight into what it is like, life at this level. I think it’s made me better, made me stronger.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge going forward now, unless people above tell me otherwise.”

This has been Edwards’ first season as a manager at senior level.

On if it has been what he thought it would be, he said: “It has been different, but a good experience that will stand me in good stead going forward.

“Hopefully it’s helped the rest of the staff, and the players as well.

“No-one wants to be in a relegation battle. We’ve won 15 games, which is respectable, but we’ve lost too many games that should have been draws.

“It’s fine margins to improve on and then we can be competitive.”

Ashley Worsfold scored twice for Trinity, who are going down along with Tamworth and North Ferriby United, before skipper Shane Sutton struck and Marcus Dinanga grabbed a brace to give Telford the all-important three points.

Dinanga’s double took him to 24 goals across all competitions, breaking Kyle Perry’s 13-year record of most goals in a season for the Bucks.

Edwards praised his players for showing great resiliency.

“There’s been some good times, some good games, entertaining games,” he added.

“There’s been some good wins – the first day of the season, away at York, was fantastic.

“There has been some highlights along the way.

“I never wanted the club to be in the position it’s been in, but we were there.

“It weighs on you, of course there’s pressure, but the lads have dealt with that. They’ve risen to the challenge, they knew we were in a dogfight.”
