John Psaras keen on AFC Telford job
John Psaras and Neil Kitching have thrown their hats into the ring to become the new AFC Telford boss.
The Shropshire Star understands both Psaras and Kitching have applied to replace Rob Edwards at the New Bucks Head.
Former AFC Telford coach Psaras is currently working at Shrewsbury Town as a close ally of boss Paul Hurst, generally taking in Midlands and north west fixtures.
He was put in charge of AFC Telford for the final six weeks of the 2012/13 season following the quickfire exits of Andy Sinton and Graham Hyde.
But despite being interviewed twice, the Bucks opted against appointing Psaras and brought in Liam Watson instead.
After 18 years on the academy staff at Walsall, Psaras was brought to the club by former manager Sinton in June 2010.
Following previous interim boss Hyde’s decision to quit after just two games, Psaras then stepped up from his role as first-team coach to try and did earn a win and two draws from his nine games in charge as the Bucks were relegated from the Conference.
He went on to become boss at AFC Bridgnorth but quit over a difference of opinion on the long-term direction of the club.
Like Psaras, Kitching has not managed at National North level, but he has done impressive jobs at both Rushall Olympic and Stafford Rangers.
Kitching left his role as Stafford Rangers manager at the end of the season after coming to an ‘amicable agreement’ with the board to step down after four years in charge at Marston Road.
Rangers won the Evo-Stik First Division South and the Staffordshire Senior Cup during Kitching’s tenure as well as having good runs in the FA Cup and FA Trophy.
Before that he helped Rushall get out of the Evo-Stik First Division South for the first time in their history.
As revealed by the Shropshire Star on Saturday, former The New Saints chief Craig Harrison is interested in the post after leaving Hartlepool in February while Marcus Bignot, out of work since leaving Chester last week, has also been linked.
Former Wolves and Aston Villa defender Edwards quit on Friday after one year in charge where he guided the Bucks to a 14th-place finish in the National North.
