Bernard McNally column: Interesting times ahead at AFC Telford
Next season will be interesting at AFC Telford United.
New managerial duo Gavin Cowan and Phil Trainer are obviously coming into quite a big club.
Let’s face it, Telford are now lower down in the football tier system.
But they are a big club with big expectations.
I know Phil more, he is quietly spoken but knows the standard required to get Telford back up the league where they should be.
He will know who to bring in and what is needed next season.
It will be a tough run for them, Phil and Gavin.
It is their first managerial roles. Sometimes if you are a bit naive that isn’t a big deal as you can get through the season, but you don’t want to be too naive.
Recently the club has talked about going full time – I think it is a big step.
My own view is the playing budget is not strong enough to support that, they need more experience in the side.
The club is relying on kids but you don’t want to be relying on kids, that is my main concern.
Hopefully they can find more funding.
They will need more experienced players to go full time.
