Gavin Cowan delighted to snap up Darryl Knights at AFC Telford
AFC Telford United boss Gavin Cowan believes new signing Darryl Knights has been one of National North’s best attacking players over the last few years.
Knights is the first fresh face to commit to Cowan’s charges for next season.
The 30-year-old spent last term at Tamworth, scoring 10 goals in 30 appearances, and won the division with Solihull Moors – while Cowan was there as a player-coach – in 2016.
“I was with Darryl at Solihull so I’m fully aware of what he’s capable of, the talent that he has,” said Cowan. “He’s arguably the best No.10 at this level.
“We’ve been in talks of what I expect from him, and I’m expecting a lot.
“I’ve been quite intense and quite forward with how I want things to go here, looking at the bigger picture. He can’t wait to get started with it all and that’s testament to him.”
Knights also troubled National North defences during a spell at Kidderminster Harriers and got the only goal as they beat the Bucks 1-0 at Aggborough back in January of 2017.
Having had spells at Newport County and Yeovil Town too after progressing through Ipswich Town’s youth ranks, he is one of seven tied down for the upcoming campaign.
Shane Sutton, Jon Royle, Henry Cowans and Ross White have all put pen to paper on new deals, while Ellis Deeney and Amari Morgan-Smith signed 18-month deals in January and February respectively.
