AFC Telford going extra mile for Gavin Cowan
AFC TELFORD UNITED boss Gavin Cowan has placed an emphasis on kilometres over results from their pre-season schedule.
Their run of friendlies continued today with a clash against former Bucks man Sam Ricketts’ Wrexham.
And Cowan has made it his aim to instil a high work-rate into his charges, as he believes it is integral to success.
“All you can ask for at this stage is that health and wellbeing is where it should be, that the lads are getting a workout and the attitude and application is there,” he said.
“That’s what’s happening – great attitude, application, and the conditioning is great. Supporters want to see results, but they’re a little bit immaterial at the moment.
“We just want to make sure we’re ready for August 4 (the start of the National League North season) because that’s the big one.
“Results are a little bit irrelevant, it’s getting the lads out and above the kilometres we want and getting a base match fitness.
“It think it is integral nowadays. We get lads training at about eight-and-a-half kilometres at peak during sessions then four-and-a-half kilometres when we want them back down depending on what we think is required.
“It’s all about August 4, to make sure we are peaking at that time.”
