AFC Telford's Daniel Udoh urged to carry on firing
AFC Telford United boss Gavin Cowan has challenged Daniel Udoh to continue his superb goalscoring form as the National League North campaign draws closer.
The Bucks' new frontman has netted five goals in as many games over pre-season.
He bagged a brace in Saturday's 3-1 home win against Wrexham – both one-on-one finishes with his left foot.
"That's important. That's what he does. That's what he's here for," said Cowan on the 21-year-old, formerly of Crewe Alexandra.
"They've done their jobs, Dan's done his – and that's what he's got to continue to do.
"The reality is that the hardest thing to do is put the ball into the net.
"Dan's done that a couple of times on Saturday and deserves all the accolades he's going to get, but he's got a lot of work to do.
"He's got to stay in the team as there's a lot of people trying to pull the shirt off him.
"He's got to keep performing at that level, which I think he will.
"He's a very humble lad, a lovely lad, who comes from a great family.
"He wants to do well so I can't imagine he's going to start dropping his standards anytime soon. The more the merrier, really."
Udoh was one of several who caught the eye in the victory over the Dragons.
Goalkeeper Nick Townsend came on for the start of the second period and commanded his area well.
The former Barnsley man, who featured for the Tykes in the Championship last season, is currently a free agent.
Telford currently have one goalkeeper signed in Sheridan Martinez, who played the first half. Cowan wants a second but says a deal for Townsend is unlikely.
"He's far too good for this level in truth," he added.
"He's come to us purely as a matter of circumstance. We were really fortunate to have him on Saturday.
"He's not been able to find himself a club as of yet but I can't imagine that'll be too far on the horizon.
"We're just throwing our hat in the ring, just in case.
"He's played in the Championship, 10 times last year.
"He'd be really good competition for Shez, who, again, I thought was fantastic on Saturday.
"He's been brilliant and worked really hard over pre-season – waited for his chance and certainly taken it."
