Gavin Cowan hoping to keep duo at AFC Telford
AFC Telford United chief Gavin Cowan is interested in snapping up young duo Andy Wycherley and Jason Cowley on dual-registration deals.
Goalkeeper Wycherley and striker Cowley have been on trial with the Bucks over pre-season and Cowan is a big fan of both.
He cannot guarantee former New Saints shot-stopper Wycherley and Bromsgrove Sporting hotshot Cowley first team football yet, but wants to keep the two 'in and around it'.
"We're trying to work out something with Andy. I've spoken to his agent and I'd like him to be in and around it," said Cowan.
"I don't see him as our No.1 just yet, but I see that he potentially could be.
"As a club, we have a responsibility to look at local lads and especially talented ones like him, to try to work with them.
"We're trying to do that but we have to be careful with our resources.
"We haven't got the luxury of bringing in players just to develop them, who are going to expect payment.
"We've got to work other ways and I've got certain ways of doing that. Hopefully we can sit down and have a good chat with him."
Wycherley, aged 20, turned down fresh terms at Park Hall earlier this summer and has also played friendlies for Nantwich Town over the past few weeks.
Cowley, 22, was a huge part of Bromsgrove's Midland Premier triumph last season and it is believed he turned down a chance to talk to Telford's National League North rivals Nuneaton in January.
"Jason has been with us all through pre-season and he's a really hot prospect," said Cowan.
"He was at Bromsgrove last year and completely tore the league up.
"We're trying to work something to keep him in and around it.
"Again, finance is an issue, but we want him at the club. He's a great lad, very humble – a working class lad who wants to make something of himself.
"He wants to be a part of it and we're trying to work something with him.
"We'd like to keep Jason in and around it, formally.
"With Andy, it'd be with a view to getting him back out there but we want to secure him because I think he's that good. If he plays at too low a level it's an injustice."
