AFC Telford to remain patient with promising forward Jack Downing
AFC Telford United are delighted with the progress youngster Jack Downing is making – but do not want to rush him into the first team.
Teenage striker Downing is dual registered with the Bucks and Stourport Swifts and has been featuring for the latter in the Midland Premier.
He is their top scorer too, with six goals in 14 games.
“We’re obviously delighted with how he’s progressing,” said Telford’s football operations manager Luke Shelley.
“He’s playing regular men’s football and he’s on our education course. He trains with the first team on a Monday so it’s the best of both worlds. And it’s the best thing for him.”
Downing has been featuring for the Bucks’ youth team as well as Stourport and netted twice in a 3-1 FA Youth Cup win against Stourbridge on Thursday.
Telford will host Rugby Town in the third qualifying round.
