AFC Telford ace Daniel Udoh in a race to face York
Star striker Daniel Udoh is hoping to deliver AFC Telford United a boost by declaring himself fit for Saturday’s home clash with York City.
Udoh was absent as the Bucks went down to a 2-1 National North defeat at Curzon Ashton last weekend.
But the 22-year-old, who has found the net 11 times this season, returned to training on Tuesday night and is in with a chance of facing the Minstermen, the first of back-to-back home games for Gavin Cowan’s men.
“I joined in training on Tuesday so there will be a chance for Saturday if everything goes well,” said Udoh, who joined the Bucks in the summer after being released by League Two side Crewe Alexandra.
“They think it’s a bone bruise around the MCL area, I picked it up in the Chorley game.
“It felt fine (on Tuesday) but I will see the physio again today and go from there.
“I’m not 100 per cent sure whether I’ll be fit for Saturday. I want to play, I don’t want to be injured. But you have to make sure you’re right or you’re not going to be able to help the team.”
Udoh’s return would be a big boost to a Bucks side looking to get back on track after a run of just one win in seven matches, although they remain in seventh spot – the final play-off position – in the table.
But the forward insists confidence in the squad remains high and that they have learned the lessons of last Saturday’s defeat in Greater Manchester.
“We know what we need to do, the manager has told us what to do,” added the former Ilkeston, Solihull Moors, Chester, Halesowen Town and Leamington man.
“We’ve spoken about the game last weekend and the manager has shown us where we went wrong.
“Us as players we’ve seen where we’ve made mistakes and hopefully we can rectify that on Saturday.
“We have to do the basics right and stick with the plan, like we did for the first 10 games.”
