Gavin Cowan wants home comforts for AFC Telford
Boss Gavin Cowan is determined to deliver wins to AFC Telford United supporters from their home double-header and reignite his side’s play-off push.
Cowan’s charges welcome York City to the New Bucks Head tomorrow before hosting Hereford on Tuesday.
The focus is on extending the unbeaten run on their own patch – but not settling for draws after picking up just one win from their last seven league games.
“The performance against Chorley, our last game at home, was fantastic but we only picked up a point,” said Cowan.
“We’ve got two big home games now and we’ve got to start turning those performances into wins.
“York are a big club, with players that have a lot of experience in this league.
“They’ve got Jordan Burrow who has scored six goals in his last six games so we’ll have to keep an eye on him, but it’s about making sure we perform.”
Despite their recent struggle to pick up victories, the Bucks are still seventh in the National League North table – owing to an exceptional August.
On the whole, Cowan is pleased with how things have gone so far while knowing there is still plenty to work on.
“I think 99.9 per cent of supporters realise that it won’t go our way for the whole season,” he said.
“We had a great start and haven’t had the results we wanted recently but, either way, we’re still in a good position.
“Success for us is trying to get into the top half and we’re on course to achieve that at the moment so it’s about keeping that up.
“When I came in, I was keen for us to improve the mood around the club and I think we’ve been able to do that so far.
“We got a big compliment from (Chorley boss and former Telford player) Jamie Vermiglio the other week, actually.
“He said that it’s the warmest the New Bucks Head has felt in all the times he’s come back after playing for us.”
Telford’s players are due to wear black armbands against York after the passing of lifelong supporter Keith Turner.
He regularly attended away games and the club said in a statement: “Everyone at the football club would like to send their deepest condolences to Keith’s family and friends.”
