AFC Telford v Farsley preview: Bucks targeting a repeat display

AFC Telford United would gladly take a repeat of their last New Bucks Head outing against lower league opposition.

The Bucks beat Bedford Town 3-1 in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup in September, writes Joe Edwards.

Daniel Udoh grabbed a hat-trick on a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for the home crowd.

But then what happened in the next round is exactly what Telford will be out to avoid as they take on Farsley Celtic in the FA Trophy first round tomorrow.

Gavin Cowan’s side were dumped out of the Cup away to Warrington Town, who, at the time, were leading the way in the Northern Premier – a tier below the National League North Bucks.

Now though, they are fourth – a place behind Celtic, who come to town in good spirits after pulling off an upset in the last round of the Trophy.

They won 2-0 at Alfreton Town so certainly cannot be taken lightly.

And they are on a nine-game unbeaten run in the league.

Cowan will need his players on song to progress in the competition that he reached the final of as a player with Canvey Island.

He is set to welcome back Steph Morley after the left-back served a two-match ban for dissent.

Ryan Barnett will be hoping to keep hold of his place in midfield after his loan from Shrewsbury was extended until March.

Fellow loanees Brendon Daniels and Yusifu Ceesay should be involved in some capacity, while top scorer Udoh is expected to be up front.

Meanwhile, Bucks fans will not be able to enjoy a beer on the East Terrace tomorrow.

The club confirmed earlier this week that its licence had been amended to allow supporters to buy alcohol from the Learning Centre.

But drinking alcohol on the terraces is not permitted in FA competitions so the launch has been delayed until the Boxing Day clash with Nuneaton.
