Spennymoor record will not matter to AFC Telford in FA Trophy – Gavin Cowan

Gavin Cowan believes a 100 per cent record against AFC Telford’s next FA Trophy rivals will have no bearing on the outcome.

The Bucks are three wins from a Wembley appearance following their superb 2-1 win on the road at National League Hartlepool.

And Cowan’s men are heading back to the north east, after trips to Darlington and Hartlepool already this term, after being pitted against league rivals Spennymoor in the last 16.

“We’ll go for it, it’s the hand we’ve been dealt,” said Cowan, who has masterminded two National League North wins over the Moors this term. “They’re a very, very good side. It’ll be very difficult In football that does not mean we will automatically win the third game. It has no bearing on the conclusion of the third game.

“But if a side has won two from two then you want to be that team. You could talk about a psychological edge it brings, but it’s a completely different task.”

The Bucks secured an exciting 3-2 win at Spennymoor’s Brewery Field home in August before a 2-1 home win in the new year.

Cowan’s men have been unfortunate in being drawn against three teams from that region, but the boss is taking it in his stride. “It’s a long journey but not a problem,” he added. “If we have to travel on the day then we have very luxurious Longmynd coaches.

“It’s not like before when you’d have your knees around your ears.

“I get to have my players with me and I know they’re not chasing their kids around or doing chores, they’re getting a rest.”

On his side’s lofty fourth place in National North and last-16 Trophy spot, the boss added: “We’ve got to stay positive, revel in it and not shy away. Lots of clubs would give their right arm for our position.”
