Daniel Udoh: AFC Telford's strikeforce is the best
AFC Telford United top scorer Daniel Udoh is revelling in the competition amongst what he feels is one of non-league’s strongest strikeforces.
The 22-year-old has chipped in with an impressive 17 goals for the Bucks this term, but he knows he cannot rest on his laurels.
Marcus Dinanga, Amari Morgan-Smith and Andre Brown are breathing down his neck, and Udoh said: “I couldn’t tell you a team with better strikers than us at the moment.
“We’re all pushing each other on and looking to bring the best out of each other.
“I didn’t think things would go quite as well as they have done for me. But I’m on 17 now, and I’ve just got to keep pushing on and carry on scoring.
“We’re all looking to get in the team and score goals, as it’s all about the team.”
Udoh scored as Telford picked up a big FA Trophy victory at Hartlepool at the weekend, with Morgan-Smith getting the other.
Dinanga was the Bucks’ top scorer last campaign while on loan from Burton Albion and returned on a permanent basis earlier this month, and Brown has scored a few goals as well.
All of them are being coached by veteran forward Matt Barnes-Homer, who, while still part of the playing squad, has recently been appointed striker coach.
And Udoh considers himself lucky to have the 32-year-old to lean on for advice.
“He’s been there and done it, you can just look at his goal record over the years,” said Udoh.
“To have his advice, those little pointers, for games and in training is massive for all of us.
“All of the strikers stayed at training until 9.30pm on Tuesday night, doing shooting practice.
“The rest of the lads were probably home by then, but Matt had us there working on extra things.”
Udoh is in the position, as the leading goal-getter, that Dinanga found himself in last term.
On how Dinanga has fitted in since coming back, Udoh added: “He’s come in and done very well.”He played up front with me against Spennymoor and looked fit and sharp.
“Hopefully, he can score a lot of goals again for us.”
