Gavin Cowan wants more killer instinct from Telford

Gavin Cowan wanted to see more dominance from his AFC Telford United players despite their comfortable 3-1 win over Darlington.

The Bucks raced ahead inside 16 minutes thanks to Ryan Barnett and Amari Morgan-Smith.

Daniel Udoh added to it, but the Bucks failed to keep pressing on.

Harvey Saunders grabbed a late consolation, and Cowan was a bit critical of his players for not 'destroying the soul' of Darlington despite the win.

He said: "We were top drawer for 17 or 18 minutes then we got complacent.

"I have found myself saying it more, we get in the driving seat and dominate sides.

"Luckily we put them to the sword, but we were complacent.

"At times they were unplayable and at others they didn't feel like they had to earn the right to play.

"Overall it was a good win as Darlington are a tricky side.

"I was frustrated especially after Saturday.

"We need to learn to destroy the soul as I call it.

"I asked the lads to go and put it to bed, but they sometimes turn it on and off like a tap."

Cowan also aired his views on goalkeepers using walls in free kicks, as Saunders' late goal came after Josef Bursik had parried a free kick.

He said recently he would do away with them, and was left angered to see one being used again.

He added: "I am frustrated with my goalkeepers at the moment.

"A wall covers their vision, and adds a layer.

"We won't be doing it again I will make sure of it.

"If that lad was out there now he would not score past him.

"It adds a variable. We have addressed it which is frustrating to see again."

But Cowan said despite his criticisms, they came because his side have set their standard now after rising to sixth in the table.

He added: "FC United is now a huge game after the Boston draw and tonight.

"The performance was a lot better that it looked.

"I'm not running it down, but we have set the standards, and the lads have set it against themselves."
